Making the Most of a Gift Card

Turns out, it isn't only the thought that counts. How that thought is packaged and delivered also counts, at least when it comes to gift cards.

Thoughtful consumers care how the gift card they are giving to a friend or loved one is presented, whether it be in person or digitally. A gift card stuffed in a standard envelope says one thing, but a gift card packaged in an eye-catching box or delivered with a personalized email says a whole lot more.

We want the gift cards we enable our retailers to offer to say more. And we are taking steps to make sure they do.

InComm recently completed a game-changing acquisition of Gift Card Impressions (GCI), the largest provider of gift card holders in the U.S. Gift Card Impressions, based out of Kansas City, is laser-focused on providing its partners with innovative gift card packaging and digital delivery solutions.

On the digital side, this includes multimedia personalization of gift cards through email and text that breaks through the everyday white noise and better connects the recipient with the giver. On the physical side, GCI does everything from packaging to displays to custom printing to make sure the gift card the consumer is purchasing means more than just the funds on the card.

These steps might appear small, but they make a big difference. GCI found that when retailers merchandise gift card packaging next to gift cards, sales go up by 14 percent. When their patented, e-commerce gift card solutions are used, gift card sales grow by up to 70 percent.

GCI's innovations have captured a lot of attention, winning 42 major industry awards in just seven years and being featured on broadcast television segments like The Today Show.

We are most excited about this acquisition because it gives us yet another way to arm our retail and brand partners with the technology and services they need to capture consumers' attention. Come holiday season, cards packaged or delivered by GCI are going to be hot commodities as many consumers look for ways to liven up a reliable gift idea they turn to year after year.
