Finding new favorites through gift cards

Giving someone a branded (or closed-loop) gift card is often seen as a way to add a personal touch with a card for a shop or service the giver knows the recipient enjoys.

Sometimes, that personal touch can be flipped around by giving a card for a retailer, restaurant or service the recipient hasn’t used before – but one that the gift-giver believes they’ll love once they give it a shot.

How do these gift-giving ventures into the unknown tend to turn out? Our ongoing gift card research revealed these results:

37% of gift card recipients receive a gift card for a business they haven't tried

These are all encouraging findings for brands, who can trust that exposure to their product or service through a well-thought-out gift card will likely lead to a satisfied – and potentially recurring – new customer.
